Most Improved Terminal – JFK Terminal 7
PANYNJ Customer Service Excellence Awards (2024)
New York City, USA
As lead developer and majority investor in JFK Millennium Partners, Vantage Group has partnered with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to develop a new $4.2 billion Terminal 6 – part of the $19 billion total modernization of one of the most important international gateway airports in the US. Vantage’s scope also includes management and operations of the existing JFK Terminal 7.
We are bringing our partnership-focused approach and development and management expertise to another world-class airport terminal project in the New York market: a new international Terminal 6 at JFK.
Vantage’s scope includes managing and operating the existing Terminal 7 while we build a new Terminal 6 next door. As the new Terminal 6 opens in phases, we will oversee a smooth transition for airline partners and passengers to the new facilities. The first gates will open in 2026, with project completion by 2028 and ongoing terminal management via a long-term lease with the Port Authority through 2060.
We are building a world-class, 1.2 million square-foot, 10-gate Terminal 6, creating a new standard in passenger experience and airline operations.
Elevated guest experience
Terminal 6 will offer bright and airy check-in and arrivals areas, spacious luxury lounges, generous seating areas, and curated public art.
Airline partners
JetBlue will operate flights from the new Terminal 6, which will connect seamlessly to the airline’s existing operation at Terminal 5. Lufthansa Group will also make its home in Terminal 6. A number of additional airlines are also expected to operate out of the new Terminal 6.
Shopping and dining
Anchored by an expansive oculus skylight, a dynamic central dining and shopping hall will offer a curated mix of international brands and local NYC-inspired favorites.
Sustainability priorities
Terminal 6 will be sustainable by design, with responsibly sourced building materials, rooftop solar power, energy efficient baggage systems, and graywater collection and reuse.
Latest technologies
We will implement technologies that support a smooth and efficient journey through Terminal 6, including state-of-the-art security screening, and a digital concierge service.
Supplier diversity
The new Terminal 6 is creating opportunities for diverse businesses and local residents seeking career opportunities in every facet of the redevelopment. We are committed to surpassing supplier diversity participation goals and creating 4,000 jobs for residents of Queens.
With the latest technologies, premium concessions, innovative passenger amenities, and spacious lounges, the new Terminal 6 will offer travelers a world-class, NYC-inspired experience.
Investment in the new 1.2 million square foot terminal, which will anchor the north side of JFK
Expected jobs, including 1,800 construction jobs for Queens residents in skilled labor, hospitality, security, and facilities
Industry-leading participation of local, women, and minority owned business enterprises in every aspect of the project
Square feet of concession space offering world class shopping and dining via a digital first, concierge-style experience
We’ve had a busy, truly successful first year building T6. In partnership with our design-build team at AECOM Hunt and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, we’ve assembled a strong, local workforce that is committed to achieving our 2024 milestones and building with the highest levels of quality and safety. We look forward to continued progress as we build a world-class terminal that international travelers will love, and all New Yorkers can soon call home.
More than Steel and Construction
The $4.2 billion redevelopment will transform the guest experience at Terminal 6 while offering numerous opportunities for minority, women-owned (MWBE), service-disabled, Veteran-owned (SDVOB), and local business enterprises (LBEs).
Through every facet of the redevelopment, we operate through a social equity lens, ensuring fair and just distribution of resources, opportunities, and benefits within the surrounding communities.
We are committed to exceeding key supplier diversity goals, awarding a minimum of $840 million in contracts to MWBEs, so that our community receives the positive economic benefits of this unprecedented development.
As the manager of Terminal 7, Vantage’s team has made immediate improvements to support operational efficiency and a positive guest experience.
Upgrades to the terminal – which will be decommissioned when the first new gates at Terminal 6 open in 2026 – include new shopping and dining options, enhanced guest services, updated directional signage, and even some new routes and services to a range of international destinations.
In year one of the five-year development, JFK Terminals 6 and 7 are already attracting attention with several notable awards for financing and customer service.
