The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and JFK Millennium Partners, Developer of John F. Kennedy International Airport’s New Terminal 6, Announce Agreement to Debut Pooled Fleet of Electric Ground Support Equipment

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) and JFK Millennium Partners (JMP), developer of the new Terminal 6 at John F. Kennedy International Airport, have announced a groundbreaking agreement with Fortbrand Services LLC to manage and operate a pooled fleet of all-electric ground support equipment (e-GSE) at the terminal.
This initiative marks JFK as the first airport in North America to implement a shared electric ground support fleet, advancing the Port Authority’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions agency-wide by 2050.
The future e-GSE fleet at Terminal 6 will replace traditional diesel-powered equipment, eliminating approximately 2,500 metric tons of CO₂ emissions annually — equivalent to driving a gasoline car 6 million miles. Each of the terminal’s 10 gates will be equipped with electric ground support units, shared among airlines to reduce duplication, improve airside efficiency, and enhance safety.
Fortbrand Services, a Long Island-based company with over 40 years of experience supporting New York’s airports, will oversee fleet operations, maintenance, and real-time monitoring using advanced telematics software. This system will track equipment location, battery status, driver authorization, and maintenance needs.
The initiative is part of a broader sustainability strategy at Terminal 6, which includes:
- Installation of 4,000+ solar panels
- High-efficiency building systems
- Stormwater reuse
- 90% construction waste diversion
Terminal 6 is targeting LEED and ENVISION Gold certifications, aligning with JMP’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure.
This milestone complements the Port Authority’s zero-emission airside vehicle rule, which mandates the transition to zero-emission ground service equipment at JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark airports by 2030. The launch of Terminal 6 in 2026, alongside New Terminal One, will significantly expand the region’s electric GSE footprint.
Terminal 6 is part of the $19 billion transformation of JFK Airport, a public-private partnership that includes new terminals, expanded infrastructure, and enhanced passenger experience.

We are thrilled to debut this innovative shared electric ground services program, which will not only revolutionize the way ground handling is done at JFK airport – but at other airports across the country, as well.
