NAD to Share LPIA’s Path to Solar Energy at Upcoming Energy Summit
On November 5 2024, The Nassau Airport Development Company (NAD) presented its plans to integrate solar power at Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA) during the Ministry of Energy and Transport’s Energy Summit. Kevin McDonald, NAD’s Vice President of Engineering and Maintenance, discussed the development of a scalable solar power system at LPIA.
The project will roll out in three stages: design, procurement, and implementation. It will start with a 1-megawatt system, potentially expanding to 3.4 megawatts, with costs ranging from $2.5 million to $8.5 million. The system will be grid-tied, requiring collaboration with Bahamas Power and Light (BPL) and support from key stakeholders.
Construction is expected to begin by fall 2025, aiming to provide a sustainable and reliable energy supply for the airport, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and position The Bahamas as a leader in renewable energy adoption.
