MBJ Charity 5K Puts Education at the Heart of the Race

MBJ Airports Limited, the company that manages Sangster International Airport (MBJ) in Montego Bay, Jamaica, hosted the sixth MBJ Airports Foundation Charity 5K Run/Walk on September 6, 2026. Thousands of runners, walkers, and corporate teams took part under this year’s theme, “Supporting Academic Dreams.”

Since it began, the event has raised more than J$71 million in educational grants. That money has directly benefited over 3,300 students and has also supported educational institutions and their communities. The 2025 edition alone raised J$30 million.

This year’s race brought strong performances and wide participation. Defending champion won the men’s 5K in 16:19, and the women’s champion won in 21:00. The oldest competitors were 86 and 76-years old, a reminder that an active lifestyle has no age limit. Rainforest Seafood fielded the largest corporate team with 109 participants, followed by Hyatt Resorts with 78. The Airports Authority of Jamaica (AAJ) was title sponsor, and more than 110 sponsors and partners supported the event.
