A Community Asset with National Importance

YHM has been a member of the Vantage network since 1996, when it transitioned from local municipal to private operation. Today, Vantage Group is a 100% shareholder in TradePort International, which manages the airport through a long-term lease with the City of Hamilton.

Vantage Group manages all aspects of airport operations at YHM including terminal management and operations, runways, taxiways, related airfield infrastructure, aircraft emergency response, parking and ground transportation, and cargo operations.

YHM is Canada’s largest overnight express cargo airport, offering 24/7 operations, competitive fees, and a strategic location for dedicated cargo service to destinations within Canada, the U.S. and Europe.

Key Investments in Airfield Infrastructure

To ensure long-term cargo competitiveness, YHM has built strong partnerships with an established customer base of carriers, including Amazon, Canada Post, Cargojet, DHL, Purolator, and UPS.

When the global pandemic halted global air travel, YHM refocused efforts on airfield and cargo infrastructure enhancements to ensure the airport remained a critical link in Canada’s supply chain as e-commerce activity surged especially for high-value, time-sensitive goods including pharmaceuticals

Solution

YHM and the Vantage team tapped into federal and provincial programs to help fund and accelerate critical airfield infrastructure upgrades to remain competitive, including major taxiway rehabilitation essential for handling large transport aircraft. Vantage has invested $453 million (CAD) in YHM since 1996.

Results

With a combination of active airport marketing, strong carrier relationships, prudent land leasing and optimization, and a robust capital plan, YHM has become Canada’s busiest overnight cargo airport, facilitating the movement of 746 million kilograms or 966,000 US tons of goods in 2023. Airport tenants and partners have invested millions of dollars in infrastructure at the YHM, including on-airport sort and fulfillment centers, creating hundreds of local jobs.
